Nunez + Public Coffee House Update

Hola family, friends and partners!

Great things have been happening here at Public Coffee house and in our lives. Since opening in May we have been learning, experimenting, growing, and enjoying the craziness of ministering to youth and running a non-profit. Since you are reading this you obviously are invested in us, and the ministry, so we would love to share some of the adventures with you.

Since opening we have had a great response from the teens and the community.

We have an average of 10 to 20 Jr High and High schoolers in the shop at a time. As well as some grown ups here and there getting coffee (we would love to see more of those people).

There have been ups and downs, dealing with petty everyday drama, seriously heavy issues, and everything in between. We have seen so many of the youth grow and mature over the time they have spent at Public. And have had many opportunities to show the love of Jesus to the town of North Fork.

We currently have five high schoolers volunteering at the coffee bar, and are really proud of them and their dedication and hard work (well, most of the time…there’s a lot of patience needed).

Now to get you up to date on what we have been doing:

May

We had our grand opening party on May 6th. We served pulled pork sandwiches (over 130), gave away free drinks, had homemade desserts, live music, a pool tournament and over 60 super cool raffle prizes! It was a fun time celebrating. We were so encouraged by the support that the community and body of Christ showed us.

June

The kids got out of school on the 8th, which meant having them show up still in their PJ’s and hanging out all day. In June we also were a part of the Calvary Chapel of the Sierra VBS. Mallory writes and directs the whole thing every year, so that kept us really busy! We had a lot of our 8th-12th graders from Public help as Interns. That week also included a backpack giveaway by Promise Child Ministries. And a Baptism where a few of our teens proclaimed their love and devotion to Jesus. Shout out to Michael, Britani and Tenaya!

July

We got to participate in the North Fork “Forth of July Parade”. We had a float with 12 kids holding a sign that said “Jesus Loves You”. Sharing the love of Jesus North Fork style!

During July we also hosted a game day for the North Fork Library Summer Reading Program, we offered a free Coding workshop with Bitwise industries (a software company in Fresno), and had a joint youth group with Sierra Pines and YLCC (churches from the nearby towns).

At the end of July we teamed up with Calvary and hosted a community BBQ. We gave away free burgers and had an open mic night. It was a great way to show North Fork the love of Jesus and share the good news as they munched on some delish burgers.

August

This month the kids went back to school, which means we have a rush of kids come in at 3 when they get off the bus, instead of them waiting for us to get there and open. School starting also means that we have started tutoring again!

We had a back to school youth group pool party on the 18th at the Boardman’s house. We had 30 kids there! They had a great time and so did we! Thanks again Sandy and Greg!

Thanks for taking the time to read about our adventures. We hope you are encouraged by seeing the work God is doing here in North Fork, Ca. We sure are. We are blown away by Gods provision and faithfulness in every part of this new ministry and our lives.

So far the shop has had the funding to be able to pay all the bills, thanks to the support of individuals and local churches. We are truly grateful and in awe of how God has been bringing in the funding, and we know He is going to keep blowing our minds.

We have big dreams for the future and goals we are working toward. We currently have the funding needed to finish the espresso cart, we are just trying to find the time to work on it. The goal is to have it up and running before winter. We also have plans to renovate our front patio area and make it more inviting, hopefully that will draw even more people in.

As for us, the Nunez couple, we ask for continued pray. We are so grateful for your prayers and financial support so far. You are all such a blessing. However we are needing to raise further support. What we are really needing is regular monthly partners. We ask that you join us in prayer for that, as well as consider committing to giving monthly.

If thats something you feel lead to do

Please fill out our pledge card and mail it back or email it. All of our personal support is processed through Calvary Chapel of the Sierra, you can give online, by mail or in person (more info is on the pledge card).

If you’re in the area please come by anytime. We have some fine coffee, tea and handcrafted soda! We would love to see you! We love you all and are so grateful for you.

With lots of love, Kory + Mallory
